Our Review of the Argington Babylon Toddler high chair

The seat set up of the Babylon Toddler High Chair is like a cascade, drawing its inspiration from the legendary gardens in the sky built by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II over two thousand years ago. The back of the Babylon highchair tumbles down, like a waterfall, to whatever height is right for your child, or even a grown-up. This Babylon Toddler is available in different finishes and has all the qualities of a potential family-heirloom.

Argington is a small innovative children's furniture company that creates elegant wood pieces with a truly contemporary sensibility. Form and function come through in equal measure with the Babylon Toddler high chair.

The Babylon Toddler high chair is angular and adjustable to nine heights for different types of tables, from coffee table height at 17" to counter top or bistro table height at 36". This chair will support a person up to 250lbs. . . . meaning that what starts out as a high chair at feeding time will last throughout the development of your child, and your family. The list of appropriate ages for the Babylon Toddler high chair is "12 months to Adult."

The most similar wood highchairs are either the Svan High Chair or the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair.. The advantages of the Babylon are Argington's beautiful finishes, the high maximum weight capacity, and its long-term usability potential.

Please Note: The Babylon Toddler does not come with an infant tray . . . so if you want to use the Babylon as a feeding chair you will need to purchase the Infant Tray Kit and Babylon Cushion separately.

Argington takes safety seriously. The Babylon High Chair exceeds ASTM standards and offers a 3-point safety strap to keep your child secure. Another great feature: if you need extra kitchen space, simply detach the legs to compact it down to store your high chair in a closet or tuck in the corner. But with all the Babylon High Chair's great style, you probably won't want to.

This chair rules

I have had this chair for over a year and it is still in good condition and very loved. In fact, my kids fight over who gets to seat on it! If it were to break, I know it has lifetime warranty. I was very concerned about safety regarding this chair because my son does kick the island and pushes himself back. However, the chair has never tipped at all. This chair has been very durable and very easy to clean. There are no pads to put in the wash! Trust me, I have 5 boys and this chair gets beat all the time. So far, so good! I saw the coment about the Hilo...if you have $100 more to spare, bad taste in color and lots of space for a bulky item you should buy it! I stay with Arginton!

Bought this chair in orange lacquer after just a few months the finish was cracking and peeling. Very large and hard to clean. I would never buy again!!!!

Only buy it if you need the height

2
Reviewer: Anonymous , Santa Monica, CA Date: May 04, 2009
After an exhaustive search, this was the only wooden highchair that was tall enough to accomodate my kids at our bar/kitchen counter. Unfortunately the first THREE chairs were defective. Two of the chairs collapsed under the weight of normal-sized adults. I currently own three, but tell adults not to sit on them for fear of them breaking. The finish is easily damaged. The cushions don't sit right, and removing the foam to wash them is a pain. Its height is the ONLY redeeming quality and the ONLY reason anyone should consider buying this. If all you need is a highchair for a regular table, look elsewhere.

Form over Function

Reviewer: Heidi , Vancouver, BC Date: February 20, 2009
This chair looks great. It solves the problem of having my son sit at the island and eat in the kitchen with us. However, I agree that the hardware is not that great. The base connection becomes loose over time (easy enough to tighten) and I have already replaced the hardware for the tray table once. Also, it is a PAIN to keep clean. The bigger issue with this chair is the SAFETY. I have a now 21 month old. At one year, he was in the chair at our island and grabbed the side of the island and pulled himself right over onto our tile floor. I have had too many close calls with this chair tipping over because it is not weighted heavy enough on the bottom and because of the height. (the Stokke design does not have this problem but also not the height). Also, try keeping a 21 month old kid from not trying to climb up onto the chair. It will be a great chair as he gets older but for a baby to toddler, I would NOT recommend. I am buying the HiLo Chair for baby number two. I thought it was ugly when I saw it online but I recently saw it in a store and have completely changed my mind. Plus it is super functional.

My child LOVES this chair!

Reviewer: mamaof5men , Boston, MA Date: February 08, 2009
Although the instructions to put this chair together did not come along in the box, the customer care rep. took care of it vry fast and emailed me the instructions. However, the chair was so EASY to put together that it took me maybe 10 minutes without instructions and just looking at the pics in the website!! Also, my child is eating so much better and LOVES being with his older brothers in the kitchen island (wich is counter-top height) I would not use this chair on an infant...just get a cheap chair from Ikea for that. Also, depending on age, kids do just fine without the padding...think how often you'll have to wash it! This chair is great and I (and my child of 20 months)feel it was a GREAT purchase!!

Changed our life!

Reviewer: karen , Chicago, IL Date: December 22, 2008
I know it sounds dramatic, but this highchair literally changed our life. Our daughter is so much happier now that she can sit at the island and be a part of things. I can cook dinner again while she feels included.

Pros: Visually stunning, good support, solid materials, eco-friendly, non-toxic finishes Cons: Hardware impossible, already on second tray and replaced the hardware, pad doesn't come high enough to protect baby's head, can't deal directly with company when it comes to customer service

With Infant Tray

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Milwaukee, WI Date: April 13, 2007
Overall a very attractive and functional chair. We have some worries about the base connection, that it may become less stable with time. The tray hardware is very difficult to manage, so we leave it in place most of the time. The chair was easy to assemble and really does look good in our kitchen.

Only counter height high chair

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Summit, NJ Date: March 02, 2007
This is the only high chair that will sit at breakfast counter height which makes it a great solution for those with a counter. Seems well made but not as sturdy as the Stokke. Also, the foot rest doesn't come far enough out for a child to comfortably put their feet flat. Very easy adjust of heights - no tools needed. Overall, get this if you need something for height or ease of adjustment, otherwise the Stokke Tripp Trapp is a better choice.
